Senior Volunteers can Support Children and Adults
The Tri-Counties Regional Center Foster Grandparent Program provides loving and experienced tutors to children with developmental disabilities. Foster Grandparents serve children in schools throughout San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. This program establishes person-to-person relationships between limited income seniors, 60 years of age and children we serve. Volunteers often become a caring grandparent figure to children giving them the extra guidance and reinforcing them as they work toward their goals.
The Senior Companion Program shares the same philosophy and goals as the Foster Grandparent Program; however, they serve adults 21 years of age and older. Senior companions serve at adult day care centers, Arc centers and adult day health care center through out the Tri-Counties area.
The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs benefit all parties involved. The volunteers receive a stipend, travel expenses, a meal each day they volunteer, annual physical exam, recognition and other benefits.
