Supplemental Supports to Consider

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

can be used to provide additional income for payment of rent and daily expenses.  Work with your service coordinator to apply for these benefits through the Social Security Administration.

In-Home Support Services (IHHS)

can add to the number of hours of total support for a person.  Work with your service provider and your County Department of Social Services to include IHHS staff in your support plan.

California Children’s Services (CCS)

can provide therapy for children up to age 22 years with certain qualifying genetic, neurological or orthopedic conditions.

Physical therapy can be provided without regard to family income and assets through CCS Medical Therapy Units, usually located in a public school. Other services such as surgery or durable medical equipment must be considered to be medically necessary. This kind of support is based on the family having an annual adjusted gross income (AGI) of $40,000 or less, although if medical expenses exceed (or are projected to exceed) 20% of income or more, the child may be eligible, despite higher family income.

Your physician will refer you to CCS with support and input from the regional center or the school.
