TCADD BOARD – Government and Community Relations Committee
The Government and Community Relations Committee consists of a Chair and at least two other Directors. The Committee creates strategies for conducting advocacy and collaborates in efforts throughout California that support the Lanterman Act.
Responsibilities: The Government and Community Relations Committee is responsible for gathering appropriate public comment in order to create strategies for conducting advocacy, as well as studying and reviewing state and local initiatives for their impact on people served by TCRC. The GCRC recommends appropriate action to the Board for increasing community awareness of the issues that impact persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The GCRC also collaborates in advocacy efforts throughout California that support the Lanterman Act and improve quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.
* Review state and local initiatives for their impact on regional center consumers, families and regional center operations; as well as pending government action at the local, state and federal levels which is likely to influence community supports and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
* Encourage political action in support of people with developmental disabilities.
* Promote positive community relations to increase opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live as full and active members of their communities.
Meeting Schedule: Held by phone, 2nd Thursday each month, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
