Participant-Directed Services

Not to be confused with the Self-Determination Program, this service allows families served by regional centers to hire their own staff through an FMS agency.

Participant-Directed Services offer flexibility to support people served and their families. Participant-Directed Services offers more control over how and by whom some Individual Program Plan (IPP) services are provided.

The person served or family choose who to hire, schedule when the person works, supervise their work, and gives options to minimize risk to COVID-19. Participant-Directed Services is available to individuals who live in their home, their family’s home, and some community living arrangements.

Sometimes it may be hard for individuals or families to find providers. Participant-Directed Services let you use providers or individuals you already know, or who speak in your language.
